Ask anyone what makes Dismal River Club special, and they might mention the rugged topography or the course layout. But if you ask them who owns the place, they’ll tell you about Dixie.

Dixie spent years working as a hunting dog for autumn pheasant hunts on the property. When her hunting days ended, she stayed in the kennels with plenty of energy left to give.
Everything changed when she was adopted by John, one of the key staff members on the property, who had not owned a dog in over 30 years. A German Shorthaired Pointer is a high-drive, highly trained athlete, and Dixie was not interested in a quiet, sedentary retirement.
Living Free on 3,000 Acres
Since then, Dixie has lived the ultimate dog’s life. She roams 3000 acres of open Sandhills with no leash and no collar. She trots along the two golf course fairways, runs the hills, and greets individuals, groups, and members who are brand new to Dismal River, or have returned time and time again.
She is twelve years old, but she acts like a five-year-old pup.

A Different Pace of Life
Watching Dixie run across the ridges is a daily reminder of what makes this land unique. Out here, life moves differently. There is space to slow down, drop the noise of daily routines, and enjoy the moment.
We put together a short video sharing Dixie’s journey from kennel dog to the true soul of our club.
Keep an eye out for Dixie on your next trip. She will be out on the grounds, enjoying the land and ready to say hello, being by your side on your next adventure with us.
